RZA Feat. Will Wells – ‘Destiny Bends’ (Paul Walker Tribute)

The world is shocked after hearing the death of Fast & Furious star Paul Walker. The 40 year old actor who has stared in all but one Fast & Furious films, lost his life in a car crash north of Los Angeles along with another friend. He was also working on the 7th installment of the film which is set to release next July.

RZA dedicates a new song to the actor today with the help of singer Will Wells. Hear it and read his personal message below.

This song, entitled “Destiny Bends” was written last night after hearing the tragic news of the loss of a good man named Paul Walker. I met Paul on the set of the film Brick Mansion, where we talked, laughed, and exchanged ideas of life and fatherhood. I only knew him personally for less than a year, but we knew each other through our work and art. We saw in each other a kindred spirit of men coming from unlikely circumstances, and rising to be the light and beacon of our family and loved ones. Men who learned the joy and pains of love in life, and success, while coming to realize that nothing is more important than family, friendship, and the brotherhood of humanity. Millions of people get to know an artist or movie star through their work, but few are allowed to cross each others’ paths and see through the veil of stardom and find the common denominator that we share. As all physical things will decay and wither away, film, art, and music remain longer than the vessel that delivered them. In this vein, the one thing we can’t take away or give back is time. So, thus, time is the most precious gift. I dedicated my time to compose this song with my two sons and new friend Will Wells, who was kind enough to sing and perform it for me. We dedicate it to Paul Walker. A good man. We had plans to continue working with each other in the future. It seemed destined, but “destiny bends”.

*Note* This song is not for criticism, it’s just a sketch demo. Please enjoy and reflect.

Your comrade in the struggle,
RZA

Our Condolences to the Family and Close Friends of Paul Walker

Witnesses reported seeing a red Porsche carrying “Fast and Furious” actor Paul Walker burning on a Santa Clarita street Saturday, killing the actor and another person.

“It was engulfed in flames. There was nothing. They were trapped,” Antonio Holmes told the Santa Clarita Valley Signal. He added the actor had been at a charity event earlier in the day.

The single-vehicle crash occurred about 3:30 p.m. in the 28300 block of Rye Canyon Loop.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, Sheriff’s Deputy Kim Manatt told The Times. Few details about how the crash occurred were available, but officials were investigating whether speed was a factor.

Holmes said the Porsche appeared to hit a tree and then slam into a light standard.

According to a statement on his Twitter account, Walker, 40, was attending a charity event to aid Filipino victims of Typhoon Haiyan for his organization Reach Out Worldwide, formed in 2010 as a quick response first-aid organization.

“It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide,” the statement read. “He was a passenger in a friend’s car, in which both lost their lives. We appreciate your patience as we too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news.”

Representatives with Universal Pictures confirmed Walker’s identity and released a statement:

“All of us at Universal are heartbroken. Paul was truly one of the most beloved and respected members of our studio family for 14 years, and this loss is devastating to us, to everyone involved with the ‘Fast and Furious’ films, and to countless fans. We send our deepest and most sincere condolences to Paul’s family.”

At the time of his death, Walker, who also starred in “Pleasantville” and “Varsity Blues,” was working on the seventh film of the “Fast and Furious” franchise.

There was a growing memorial at the crash site as people paid their respects.
