Ice Cube X Common On Squashing Their Beef And Barbershop 3

Back before the days of Twitter fingers and memes, rap beef was fought on wax. When Common released his instant-classic 1994 track “I Used to Love H.E.R.,” a few lyrics seemingly took a dig at the rise of gangster rap which didn’t sit well with West Coast gangsta rapper Ice Cube.

In retaliation, Cube connected with Mack 10 and Westside Connection on the diss track “Westside Slaughterhouse.” Common didn’t let those shots go down without a fight and came back the vicious “The Bitch in Yoo” and a rap beef was born.

Now, over two decades later, the two have teamed up on the upcoming track “Real People” and the third installment in the Barbershop franchise, Barbershop: The Next Cut. Complex News was invited to sit down with the two rapper-cum-actors during their music video shoot in Los Angeles for a candid interview about how they squashed their rap beef, their upcoming projects, and much more. Peep the video above for the full interview.

Tory Lanez Says He’s An Innovator of Current R&B Thuggy Sound; Talks Drake Beef

Tory Lanez sat down with DJ Drama recently on his StreetzIzWatchin show and discussed a lot of stuff fans have been asking him about.

The ‘Say It’ hitmaker has been going back and forth with Drake which got intensified after Drake released his ‘Summer Sixteen‘ single where he rapped: “all you boys in the new Toronto wanna be me a little”.

Last month, he claimed that he was a fan of Drake and wasn’t sure what the Toronto superstar had against him. But in this interview, which seem to have taken place just before the Super Bowl last month, he talks in length about past issues with Drake (beginning around 6 minute mark). The rising singer from Toronto says maybe Drake feels “threatened” by him that he took a shot on his ‘Summer Sixteen’ single.

Then around the 15 minute mark, Tory goes on to talk about his sound and claims that he’s one of the innovators and taste makers of the current “R&B Thuggy’ wave which got overlooked for years. He claims artists like Drake, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj & Bryson Tiller are currently doing what he was pushing years ago.

Maybe Tory hasn’t done his research. Sigh.
